Blockbuster's basic offering gives you an unlimited number of rentals per month (with up to three DVDs out at any one time) for a monthly fee of $17.99. That's a pretty fair deal. Some people we know have paid more than that just in late fees on a single DVD!
In comparing online DVD rental programs, we found that Netflix, the internet DVD rental pioneer, also charges $17.99 a month to have three movies in circulation at one time. But they don't offer free coupons for in-store rentals. (In fact, they have no stores!)

Blockbuster Online offers additional price plans: they have a monthly subscription program that lets you have 5 DVDs out at a time for $29.99 a month or 8 DVD's at a time (come on, just admit it, you really need to get out of the house more often) for $47.99 monthly.
Netflix also harges $29.99 and $47.99 for their 5-at-a-time and 8-at-a-time service levels. But once again, they do not have the ability to offer coupons for free iin-store rentals. This makes Blockbuster a better choice if you're looking for cheap online DVD rentals, but also sometimes wish to rent on the spur of the moment by visiting a retail store
It's true. Blockbuster Online subscribers also get e-coupons good for two in-store rentals at no extra charge. These can be used for DVD, VHS or even video game rentals!
The e-coupons are a way to differentiate Blockbuster from other online DVD rental companies. As far as we know, they are the only ones who can offer this hybrid model that combines DVD rental by mail with the added bonus of coupons for free in-store video or game rentals.
Watch for Blockbuster Online to capitalize on this unique point of difference in the months and years ahead. One day you may be able to order DVDs online at blockbuster.com, receive your DVDs by mail and then have the option of dropping your online rentals off in retail stores or returning them by mail.
