Since going back into the Disney vault after its VHS release in 1995, "Cinderella" has become the most requested Disney title awaiting DVD release. This week, the slipper finally fits... "Cinderella" arrives on DVD as the sixth release in Disneys Platinum Edition line. The film has been digitally restored and comes loaded with bonus features.
"Cinderella" is available all by itself, as well as in a special deluxe 2-Disc Collector's Gift Set.
Also coming to DVD this week is "The Interpreter" starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.
The first feature film ever shot inside New York's United Nations headquarters, "The Interpreter" is set against a backdrop of mounting paranoia and dangerous secrets with incendiary global consequences.
"The Interpreter" is available in both widescreen and full screen versions and includes deleted scenes, an alternate ending, audio commentary by director Sidney Pollack and several behind-the-scenes bonus features.
Clueless celebrity interviewer Jiminy Glick (Martin Short) takes on the big screen in his first feature film, "Jiminy Glick in LaLaWood." Short is brilliant and the film features a large number of big name cameo appearances, including Whoopi Goldberg, Kiefer Sutherland, Susan Sarandon, Steve Martin and Kurt Russell.
28 days of terror is what you'll get in the remake of "The Amityville Horror," based on a true story of an unsuspecting family that moves into a house they soon learn is haunted by a murderous presence. The film is available in widescreen and full screen editions.
A new value-priced 20-Disc boxed set, "Star Trek - The Motion Pictures Collection," gathers together all the Star Trek movie Special Editions in one handy collection. Included are "Star Trek: The Movie, "The Wrath Of Khan," "The Search For Spock," "The Voyage Home," "The Final Frontier," "The Undiscovered Country," "Generations," "First Contact.," "Insurrection" and "Nemesis."
A scientific experiment goes horribly wrong in "The Fly" and "The Fly ll," both headed to DVD this week, as is the "Val Lewton Horror Collection."
Val Lewton was a famous RKO Radio Pictures producer who redefined the horror genre with low-budget, high-box office films. Nine of these horror classics come to DVD in this new collection.
The 5-Disc "Val Lewton Horror Collection" includes 3 double-feature discs - "Cat People/Curse of the Cat People," "I Walked with a Zombie/The Body Snatcher" and "Isle of the Dead/Bedlam" - each of which will also be available separately.
Rounding out the boxed set will be two additional discs exclusive to the gift set collection: "The Leopard Man/The Ghost Ship" and "The Seventh Victim" which is double-billed with a new bonus documentary about the horror producer, "Shadows in the Dark: The Val Lewton Legacy."
And another film master gets his due this week when "Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection" is released. The set includes fourteen films directed by the master of suspense presented on fifteen DVDs.
That wraps up another edition of the DVD Dossier; we'll be back here once again next week to do it all over again.
Till then... all the best,

"March of the Penguins" waddles its way toward DVD on November 29th.
The sleeper hit of the year, the film charmed audiences across the country, grossing over $70 million in the process.
Every year, thousands of emperor penguins make an astonishing journey to breed their young. They are birds, but they do not fly. They are aquatic animals, but this time they will not swim. |
Hailed by critics as one of the best film experiences of the year, "March of the Penguins" is narrated by Academy Award® winner Morgan Freeman and chronicles the amazing lives of the emperor penguins and their remarkable journey to find a mate and protect their offspring against the icy Antarctic blast.
Separate widescreen and full screen editions will be available and special features will include "Of Penguins and Men," a full-length documentary on the filmmaking process, "Crittercam: Emperor Penguins," a National Geographic feature that offers a first hand look at penguins' natural behavior as they dive, swim and feed together under water, "8 Ball Bunny," an animated short in which Bugs Bunny tries to get a penguin back to the South Pole.
