"Robots," from the makers of "Ice Age," debuts on DVD this week in both widescreen and full screen editions.
Featuring an all-star voice cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Greg Kinnear, Mel Brooks, Amanda Bynes, Drew Carey and Robin Williams, the animated film is about a small town robot named Rodney who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.
As he heads for the big city to pursue his dream, he proves - along with the help of his misfit mechanical friends - that anyone can shine no matter what they're made of.
Special features include an all-new animated short created just for the DVD release, "Aunt Fanny's Tour of Booty," plus commentary from director Chris Wedge and producer William Joyce, technical director's and animator's commentary, deleted scenes ("discontinued parts") and the original "Robots" short that sold the movie's concept to the studio.
Another animated film out this week is "The Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story.
In this unrated 88 minute direct-to-home-video premiere, Stewie, the maniacal baby genius from the Fox TV hit, is distracted from his plans for world domination when he sees a man who looks just like him on television.
Also arriving on DVD on Tuesday: Michelle Yeoh in "Silver Hawk," a Kung Fu take on "The Matrix" and "Experiments in Terror," a collection of independent, avantgarde horror shorts from the early 1960s up to the present. Included are vintage trailers, a promo for a film made with "Psychorama" subliminal messaging, and "The Haunted Mouth," a tooth decay movie narrated by Cesar Romero.
And "Guerrilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst" provides a gripping account of one of the most sensational kidnappings in American history.
From the inventive mind of Academy-Award® winning animator Nick Park comes "Creature Comforts: The Complete First Season."
Originally aired to great acclaim on British television and Comedy Central as well as nominated for a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Award for Best Comedy Series in 2004, "Creature Comforts: The Complete First Season" is the first American presentation of these animated shorts on home video.
Over the course of four films, writer/director Amando De Ossorio created what fright film fans worldwide consider to be one of the most startling series in horror history. This unique quartet of terrifying films - gathered together for the first time on DVD in "The Blind Dead Collection" - deliver a relentless onslaught of creepy atmosphere, shocking violence, forbidden sexuality, and the still-chilling icons of EuroHorror: the eyeless undead who hunt by sound in their quest for human flesh.
These four long-unseen horror classics have been fully restored from original vault materials and are now available in this new Limited Edition Collection, which also contains an exclusive bonus disc of interviews with the late De Ossorio and a collectible booklet, all packaged in a coffin-shaped box!
The last days of New Yorks "Downtown" scene and its art world follies are laid bare in "Resident Alien," a profile of cult figure Quentin Crisp, a flamboyantly eccentric Englishman who once pursued fame across the razor-sharp edges of Manhattan.
Martina Warren was crowned "Penthouse Pet of the Year" for 2005; a new DVD chronicles the selection process.
"The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus 16 Ton Megaset" includes 14 discs of "Monty Python's Flying Circus," packed with every episode from the programs four year run, plus "Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl" and "Monty Python Live at Aspen."
Also from TV this week comes the "The Vicar of Dibley 10th Anniversary Specials," "Beverly Hillbillies: The Ultimate Collection, Volume 1," and compilation discs of popular TV shows from years past: "Chico and the Man," "F Troop," "Maverick," "Cheyenne" and "Dukes of Hazzard."
That's all for this edition of the DVD Dossier; please join us next week for more new DVD releases.
