We've got oil, rope, an omen, a dog (or two) and a few hills (with eyes) for you this week, so we'll get right to it...
If you own a car, you know that big oil means big money. Very big money.
In "Syriana," that little fact unleashes corruption that stretches from Houston to Washington to the Mideast and ensnares industrialists, princes, spies, politicos, oilfield laborers and terrorists in a deadly, deceptive web of move and countermove.
This lightning-paced, action thriller is a politically-charged epic that will grip your mind and nerves with an intensity that won't let go for an instant.
The film, written and directed by Stephen Gaghan, stars George Clooney in his Oscar-winning role, Matt Damon and Jeffrey Wright. It arrives on Tuesday in both widescreen and full screen versions, each with special features that include "A Conversation with George Clooney."
"Syriana" is also available in HD DVD.
"Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure" is the sequel to "Lady and the Tramp" and it's told with the same animation, musical style and sense of fun as the original. This one introduces a new group of characters, while bringing back beloved characters from the original, including Lady, Tramp, Jock and Trusty.
Now a happy couple, Lady and Tramp busily raise their well-behaved puppies, except for mischievous Scamp, whos always in the doghouse. Longing for freedom, Scamp ventures far from home and meets a lovely, reluctant stray named Angel.
She introduces him to the Junkyard Dogs, led by streetwise Buster. When Buster challenges Scamp to the ultimate test of a collar-free life, Scamp finds himself torn between a world of adventure and love for the family hes left behind.
Scott Wolf and Alyssa Milano lead the voice cast, which also includes Jodi Benson, Chazz Palminteri, Bronson Pinchot, Jeff Bennett, Cathy Moriarty and Mickey Rooney.
With music and lyrics by Melissa Manchester and Norman Gimbel, "Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure" contains heartwarming ballads and show-stopping tunes, set to a spirited, contemporary beat.
Warner Home Video releases "Clark Gable: The Signature Collection," this week, marking the DVD debut of six of the Hollywood screen idol's films: "Boom Town," "China Seas," "Dancing Lady," "Mogambo," "San Francisco" and "Wife vs. Secretary."
The Collection also features the documentary profile "Clark Gable: Tall, Dark & Handsome," hosted by Liam Neeson, plus vintage featurettes and musical shorts.
All titles have been completely remastered and are available individually, as well as in the Collection.
The lucky ones die first in producer Wes Craven's graphic reinterpretation of his own cult-classic horror flick, "The Hills Have Eyes."
The film is available this week in two separate versions: the original theatrical release and what Fox Home Entertainment has promised us is an "even more intense and gruesome" Unrated Edition, which they've dubbed "the version to die for."
Directed by newcomer Alexandre Aja with raw gut-wrenching realism and hard-driving visual style, "The Hills Have Eyes" is a relentlessly brutal story of one family's fight for survival in an ever-intensifying nightmare scenario.
The remake stars Ted Levine and Kathleen Quinlan, along with a strong supporting cast of new talent including Emilie de Raven, Aaron Stanford and Vinessa Shaw.
The Theatrical Edition features both widescreen and full screen versions on a 2-sided "flipper" disc, while the Unrated Edition is being released in widescreen only.
Also this week, Warner Home Video kicks off the Summer with the debut of five entertaining comedies from the 1960s and '70s, each with a fervent cult following and previously unavailable on DVD: "A Fine Madness," "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight," "I Love You, Alice B. Toklas," "The Loved One" and "Petulia."
All the films have been newly remastered and are presented in widescreen editions, enhanced for 16 x 9 television sets.
Our favorite of the five is "I Love You, Alice B. Toklas," in which Peter Sellers stars as Harold Fine, a dedicated lawyer about to become a more dedicated dropout. Director Paul Mazursky spreads good vibes, man, as Harold discovers tuning in and turning on can turn out to have disastrous consequences.
"Eight Below" is a heartwarming adventure demonstrating the loyalty, the courage and the bonds of friendship between eight incredible sled dogs and their human guide.
Stranded in the extreme wilderness of Antarctica, the intrepid sled dogs must band together to survive while their handler Jerry (Paul Walker) stops at nothing to attempt a rescue mission.
The "Eight Below" DVD features never-before-seen deleted scenes with optional directors commentary; Running With The Dogs: The Making of Eight Below, a behind-the-scenes look at the film; and two feature audio commentaries.
The film is available in both full screen and widescreen versions, as well as on UMD for PSP.
Five immortal movie mysteries demonstrating the astonishing versatility of an acknowledged master of the American cinema arrive on DVD this week. We'd love to tell you the full name of this director, but we can't because his last name contains a word that e-mail filters often think means something else entirely.
His first name is Alfred... and let's leave it at that.
"Rope," "Topaz," "Saboteur," "Frenzy" and "The Trouble With Harry" represent some of the finest work of this gifted director, dubbed "The Master of Suspense."
Digitally remastered to optimize audio and visual clarity, the films star Hollywood legends James Stewart, Shirley MacLaine and John Forsythe (and others) and each DVD comes with an array of unique, behind-the-scenes bonus features.
George Reeves returns as Superman (a.k.a. Clark Kent) in 26 episodes comprising Season 3 and Season 4 of "The Adventures of Superman," the TV show that ran for six seasons in the 1950s.
This time his exploits take him to a stuffy European monarchy, a remote desert isle and a cave in the year 50,000 BC. And for the first time, the Man of Steel's exciting flights, fights, and super heroics are presented in color.
"The Adventures of Superman" is just one of many Superman-related titles to debut this week. Warner Home Video is rolling out a bunch of DVDs to celebrate what they're calling "The Year of Superman," culminating in the big screen release of the new movie, "Superman Returns" on June 30th.
Other super DVDs out this Tuesday include "The Adventures of Superboy: The Complete First Season," "Superman: The Animated Series Vol. 3" and "Lois & Clark: The Complete Third Season."
Well, hey... looks like we've come to the end of another week of new and notable releases. We'll be back next week, however, to do it all over again.
Please join us.
All the best,

Over at the Blog, we provided details this past week of next week's release of "Find Me Guilty" and "Failure to Launch," as well as "Take the Lead" with Antonio Banderas, the direct-to-home video Disney sequel "Brother Bear 2" and "Saving Shiloh," the third film based on the successful award-winning children's book trilogy.
We also announced two new-to-DVD independent lesbian flicks, the gritty Belgian drama, "L'enfant" and the inspirational family film, "Hoot."

If you haven't been reading the Blog, you missed the announcements for a bunch of new TV shows making their way to DVD including the First Season of the hit Showtime series "Weeds," the Fourth Season of "NYPD Blue" and the Fifth Seasons of both the Superman prequel "Smallville" and the medical drama "ER."
We also announced this past week the First Season of the animated superhero series "The Tick," the Second Season of both "The Rockford Files" with James Garner and "The Flying Nun" with Sally Field, the Third Season of "Nip/Tuck" with Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon and the Sixth (and Final) Season of "Good Times" with Jimmie Walker and Esther Rolle.
All this, plus the first Blu-ray Disc player started shipping, Blockbuster counter-sued Netflix, The NY Times said that Hollywood is searching for a new cash cow and we began a new series called "Innocent Until Proven Stupid," in which we detail the outrageous and illegal acts committed by very stupid people, all of whom share a misguided passion for DVDs.
